Draft Programme released for the ASA National Masters Championships 2016
The ASA National Masters Championships 2016 takes place at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre between the 28 – 30 October.
The championships are highly anticipated every year and one of the highlights of the Masters swimming calendar.
Individual entries are now open and will close on Friday 30 September at 12 noon. Once a session is full, entries for these events will close. Make sure you get your entries in soon so you don’t miss out on your place. This includes swimmers who are only entering relay events.
Relay entries will be open until Wednesday 5 October at 12 noon.
New format for ASA Masters Entries
As the event has got more popular, the Masters Working Group have decided to change the event format slightly to keep it manageable. From 2017 there will be qualifying times which swimmers must meet in order to compete.
Chair of the Masters Working Group, Verity Dobbie, said: “We listened to the ASA Masters members’ views and took on board suggestions. As a result, we realised this event is no longer a participation event. It is the pinnacle of the annual Masters calendar which many swimmers aspire to attend.
“We considered all of the options and concluded that swimmers can enter until the event is full in 2016. As of next year (2017), we will be introducing qualifying times for all events.
“This will mean swimmers need to have a time on British Rankings within two years of the closing date of the competition for 2017.” – Verity Dobbie
The ASA will release qualifying times soon. This will allow swimmers to judge how close they are to these times at the 2016 event. Swimmers should plan for achieving their qualifying times ahead of the ASA National Masters Championships 2017.
