At the Warwickshire County Championships, three young swimmers – Pia Tonks, Sancha Tonks and Jessica Deans said to the Head Coach of Perry Beeches SSS, Dave Marsh – “if we all do a personal best time on the 50m Butterfly will you come into swimming dressed as a woman?” To which Dave replied “Yes”…….so here is Dave dressed as a woman – what a good sport Dave Marsh is.
Perry Beeches SC is celebrating securing swim21 accreditation for a second time – the national benchmark of excellence from the ASA, the national governing body involved in every element of swimming.
The club has achieved the swim21 award for Swimming at Teaching and Masters level.
Swim21 accreditation is the ASA’s ‘Quality Mark’ for clubs and the ASA’s way of ensuring every athlete – whatever their age or level of experience – belongs to a club that provides the best possible support and environment.
Specifically it’s about putting the swimmers first and ensuring young athletes are following the pathway the ASA recognises for training and competition (via the principles of Long Term Athlete Development).
Jennifer Powell, Perry Beeches Swim 21 Coordinator, said: “Working towards Swim 21 has been a challenging and really useful exercise for the Club. It has encouraged us to look at and improve our policies and practices and to focus on giving our swimmers the best possible experience.”
David Sparkes, the ASA’s Chief Execuive, said: “There is a great deal of hard work involved in getting swim21 accreditation and it is a real credit to the club’s committee and staff that they have managed to achieve such high standards. They are leading by example and deserve many congratulations.”
The Annual Boldmere Water Carnival takes place over the weekend of Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th July this year. (picture below was taken at last year’s Water Carnival).
This is a level 2/3 open meet, which Beeches would like you to enter if applicable.

Talk to your Teacher or Coach for help with this – must be at least 9 years old on 7th July this year.
There will be time trials taking place during normal lesson times over the coming week. This is to help the coaches prepare the teams going out in the next few weeks, and to see how the swimmers are progressing against previous personal best times. So don’t be surprised if you see a stop watch come out, or are asked to come down to do some timekeeping – you have been warned 🙂

The last day of this year’s City of Birmingham Open meet, was another successful day for Beeches.
Out of the 21 swims on the day, 11 were personal best times, this coming at the end of a long three days for most of the swimmers.
Jessica Deans was there, despite still recovering from being poorly, and swam the 50 breast and the 200 I.M. Ashleigh Stackhouse and Katie Gulliver swam the 50 Breast, 200 I.M., 50 Free and 200 Backstroke. Dom Cotter swam the 50 Backstroke, narrowly missing out on a finals place, and the 50 Free; and Andrew Gulliver swam the 50 Free.
Finals –
Girls 50 Breaststroke – Ashleigh Stackhouse came 6th.
200 I.M. – Katie Gulliver claimed silver and Ashleigh Stackhouse came 6th.
200 Backstroke – Katie Gulliver claimed gold, and Jessica Jones came a close second to take silver.
50 Free – Andrew Gulliver won the silver medal.
