Warwicks Week 2 2014

Saturday 8th March saw the second week of this year’s Warwickshire County Championships at Coventry’s 50 meter pool.

Firstly we had the swimming, and Dan Smith added another silver medal to his collection, this time for the 50 Breaststroke.

The Open Men’s medley relay team had a little bit of a twist this week, with Tom Reader stepping up to do his first 50 Long course butterfly in 11 years. Jamie Keyte on backstroke, Dan Smith on Breaststroke, Tom Reader on the butterfly and Dom Blackwell on the free, the lads came fourth, but enjoyed every minute of it!

Then the presentations – Hasna Hakim accepted the award she had been given late last year, and Paul Bates was crowned Warwickshire Swimmer of the year 2014 – well done to both of them.

Warwicks Week 1 2014

Warwicks week 1 – A big hearty well done to Dan Smith who finalled 3 times on the day, and won two silver medals, for the 100 breast and 50 free.

DanSAlso – we have to mention the bravery of our young boy swimmers in the 9/10 50 medley relay.

Alfie Williams, Vinaye Gaddu, Harvey Higgins and Dilshan Bamanuvitharana swam for the first time in their life in Coventry’s 50 meter pool – and enjoyed the experience.

Well done to all swimmers on the day, and good luck to all swimmers taking part next Saturday in week 2.

A new era for the Diddys at Beeches

Monday 24th February will see the start of a new era for the younger length swimmers at Perry Beeches swimming club.

The Junior Lengths and Diddy groups (Diddy being short for Nuneaton and District Junior League) will have a new coach starting on that day – Katalina Smalley. I’m sure you will all give Katalina a big Beeches welcome into the club.

Katalina

Katalina will be taking both groups on Mondays and Wednesdays (and also taking the Juniors on a Friday at Erdington), and will be working in conjunction with Dan Smith, who will be taking the same groups on Sundays at Beeches from Sunday 16th March. Dan is keen to help some of the younger swimmers achieve some of the success he has seen over the years.

Lets hope these two can take our junior swimmers onto bigger and better things.

The future is bright – the future is BEECHES!

Congratulations to all who swam in Saturday’s gala at Solihull

A big hearty cheer goes to all our valiant swimmers who swam in Saturday’s Friendly Diddy gala at Solihull.

Although small in numbers, the enthusiasm was amazing.

All swimmers on the night did well, and cheered and encouraged their friends to do well too.

9/under girls were Becky Gulliver (who came 2nd in the 25m Fly and 25m Breast, and third in the 10/under 50m back), Catrice Hart (who came 2nd in the 25m free) and Trearna Hart (who came 2nd in 25m back) – Catrice and Trearna are two out of three triplets 🙂 and Daani and Kieran Dhillon, who swam very well in their first gala for the club. Danni and Kieran are identical twins 🙂

9/ under boys on the night were Vinaye Gaddu (who came 2nd in the 25m Breast, and 4th in the 10/under one length Butterfly), Ellison Hart – the third triplet 🙂 (who came 4th in the 12/under 50m back (!), and 1st in the 25m back in his own age group), Alfie Williams (who came 5th in both the 11/under back and the 10/under back), Harvey Higgins (who came 1st in the 25m Fly) and Lewis Carless (who came 1st in the 25m Free, and swam a big PB to come 5th in the 11/under 50m free).

Also swimming on the night were Emma Sarling (50m free and 50m Back), Mohammed Ishmael (50m Free in the 10/under and 12/ under), Jessica Deans (50m Back and 50m Breast), Sophia Deans (50m Breast and 25m Fly), Jack Skett (50m Breast for the 10/under and the 11/under), Vicky Cox (50m Fly), Olegs Kuznecovs (50m Fly and 50m Breast, Cody Robins (50m Free), Hannah Lawrence (50m Breast) and Raenne Davison (50m Free for the 11/unders).

A massive well done to all the swimmers for their enthusiasm, and their willingness to swim multiple times on the night in the relays.

New Diddy Coach Katalina was there on the night to see the swimmers in action, and will be starting to work with the swimmers on Monday the 24th February, her first session in charge of the group.

The future is bright with all of these lovely swimmers and their great new coach Katalina.
