Arena League Round 3 – Rugby 14/12/13

photo (3)

This Saturday saw Perry Beeches compete in the final round of the Arena League in Rugby. Spirits were high and Atmosphere was tense, but Beeches celebrated in style with a wonderful array of Christmas hats, a brilliant idea from our current female club captain Katie Gulliver and Jessica Jones. It definitely brought the team together, as team spirit was higher than ever before and with swimmers desperate to do well it is no surprise that Beeches finished with our best result of the season. Coming a comfortable 6th out of 7 beating Solihull B by over 30 points a brilliant result especially, as Solihull had beaten us on a previous round.  What a great way to finish the 2013 calendar!

The Gala was a fast paced affair, with swimmers getting a grand total of 14 PBs and 15 unofficial PBs. We had a record number of 10 winning races, which included: Dan Smith who won all three of his individuals (200IM, 100 Fly, 100Fc) with Personal Best times: Katie Gulliver won her 15 and under 100 Fly and she came a close 2nd in her open 100Fc which was also a personal best time. Both Grace Morgan and Dom Blackwell won their under 15’s 100m Fc with convincing leads. The last individual win was Jessica Deans in the 11 and under’s 50 FC. Finally we had wins from the 15 and under female relay team who won both of their relays by several arm strokes. The team consisting of Grace Morgan, Jessica Jones, Hasna Hakim and Katie Gulliver deserve a huge well done for their efforts. Also the Men’s open relay, the final event of the gala, I personally believe the team made up of  Dean Roberts, Dominic Blackwell, Jovan Owusu-Nepal, Andrew Gulliver , Jamie Keyte and Dan Smith, deserves a special mention and a thank you for the nail biting conclusion to the gala. All 6 lads worked so hard to gain a win for the team, although the result was uncertain until quite literally the last arm stroke as Dan brought the race home.

I want to say a huge thank you to all the team:

  • The 11’s-Sophia Deans, Jessica Deans, Cody Robins, Lily Spencer, Kynan Walker, Harvey Kang, Talvinder Khella, Dylan Scruton.
  • The 13’s-Danya Gaddu, Dominique Gomez and Sukhvir Khella
  • The 15’s and Opens-  Grace Morgan, Jessica Jones, Hasna Hakim, Katie Gulliver, Lucy Keyte, Channel Kang, Dominic Blackwell, Dean Roberts, Jamie Keyte, Jowan Owusu-Nepaul and Andrew Gulliver
  • Volunteers: Coach Dave Marsh, Chaperones- Tracy Blackwell and Tracey Blackwell, Time Keepers- Cher Jones and Mark Blackwell plus Chief time keeper Helen Pordage, Judge- Lucy Gale and Recorder-Mandy Blizard.

The gala definitely wouldn’t have gone as well without you! Well Done! Merry Christmas.
