Brilliant first round of this year’s Mercian League

Saturday’s gala at Pingles in Nuneaton went swimmingly well for the Beeches swimmers who took part.

Out of the 32 individual races, 22 of them were won in personal best times. Swimming against Nuneaton, Worcester, Halesowen, Blythe Barracudas and Ludlow, the team were albe to hold their own against stiff opposition.

Winners on the night were the girls 14/under freestyle relay team (Sareena Gaddu, Jessica Jones, Lucy Keyte and Pia Tonks), Ladies Open Medley Relay team (Rachel Lickorish, Sareena Gaddu, Katie Gulliver and Lucy Keyte). Hannah Kilminster stepped in for the injured Sancha Tonks, and won the 100m Breaststroke with an impressive pb to boot! Dominic Blackwell won both the 100m Breaststroke and 100m Freestyle both for the 14/unders. Sareena Gaddu also won the 14/unders 100m breaststroke.  Pia Tonks also swam a very good 100m Freestyle to win the 12/under event.

Other top three finishers were the girls 12/under medley relay (Danya Gaddu, Hannah Kilminster, Pia Tonks and Sancha Tonks), Men’s open medley relay team (Dominic Cotter, Jaime Nugent, Andrew Guliver and Jamie Keyte); Jessica Deans (10/under backstroke and breaststroke); Jessica Jones (14/under backstroke); Katie Gulliver (Open 100m Butterfly and 100m Freestyle); Lily Massey (10/under 50m Freestyle); Rachel Lickorish (Open 100m Backstroke); Pia Tonks (12/under 50m Butterfly); Sareena Gaddu (14/under 100m Breaststroke); Girls 14/under freestyle relay (Jessica Jones, Sareena Gaddu, Lucy Keyte, Hannah Kilminster); Girls 12/under freestyle relay team (Pia Tonks, Danya Gaddu, Hannah Kilminster, Sancha Tonks); and the ladies open freestyle relay team (Sareena Gaddu, Rachel Lickorish, Lucy Keyte and Katie Gulliver). Beeches do the Swimathon

On the first day Raenne Davidson (and her Dad) – who swam as part of a relay team, Andrew Gulliver (5K), Katie Gulliver (5K), Jessica Jones (5k) and Becky Gulliver (2.5K) all took part in this year’s Swimathon. On the second day Vicky Harris (5K), Lily Spencer (1.5K) (and her Mum Jo 1.5K), and ‘Harry’ Chi Hang Lam (5K) all took part too. A big well done to all the swimmers taking part, and well done for all of the money that has been raised for Marie Curie Cancer Care. (Thanks Jessica Jones for the photo).

Midland Masters Championships

Good luck to all the Beeches swimmers – Wendy Phelps, Katie Price, Des Burley, Stuart Fuller, Jenny Powell, Claire Thorn and Becky Smith – taking part today (and tomorrow) at the Midland Masters Championships at Leamington Spa. Entered in two mixed relays and individuals we are sure they will all do very well.

Well done to all the Beeches swimmers in WWL final

A big well done to all the Beeches Swimmers who swam in the final round of the Worcester Winter League. With sixteen out of thirty two races achieving personal best times, the swimmers should be very proud of themselves. Special mention to the winners on the day – Dominic Blackwell, for the 15/under Breaststroke, the 15/under freestyle relay team (Jessica Jones, Sareena Gaddu, Katie Gulliver, Dominic Cotter, Dominic Blackwell and Jamie Keyte) who all swam well. Also to Denis Sokolov, who won the 13/under boys Backstroke, also managing a six second personal best time, and to Jessica Deans won the 11/under freestyle. Other ‘top three winners’ on the day were: Katie Gulliver (15/under freestyle and 15/under Butterfly), Jamie Keyte (15/under freestyle), Pia Tonks (13/under backstroke), 15/under medley relay team (Jessica Jones, Sareena Gaddu, Katie Gulliver, Dominic Cotter, Dominic Blackwell and Jamie Keyte), Danya Gaddu (11/under backstroke and 11/under Breaststroke), Dominic Cotter (15/under Butterfly), Jessica Deans (11/under Butterfly), Sareena Gaddu (15/under Breaststroke and Open Breaststroke),Jessica Jones (15/under Backstroke). A massive congratulations to all swimmers on the day. Special thanks to the relay swimmers – Harvey Kang, Cody Robins, Lucy Keyte, Ashley Fletcher, Chanel Kang, and Andrew Gulliver – without whom none of this would have been possible. Well done to all. Anyone can join (you do not have to be a member of the club) as we have a gambling licence from Birmingham City Council. So ask your friends and relatives if they would like to take part.
