A big well done to all of the Beeches swimmers who took part in this year’s Warwickshire County Championships over the last few weekends.
Special mentions go to the following people:
Becky Gulliver, who made the 50 Backstroke final in the 14/under age group, winning a Bronze medal.
12 year old Carys Higgins, who swam the 400 Individual Medley – an achievement in itself! Carys came 10th in the 12/13 year age group, achieving a Midland Qualifying time in the process!
Jamie Keyte, who made the 50 Butterfly final in the 16/over age group, winning a Bronze medal.
Joel Harris for making the 100 Breaststroke final in the 11/under age group – coming 7th place in the final, but improving his time from his entry time.
Lewis Carless also made the 100 Breaststroke final in the 14/under age group – finishing 8th place.
Becky Gulliver then made the 100 Freestyle final in the 14/under age group, finishing in fifth place, improving both her time and finishing position from the heats.
Next were the 10 – 12 year old girl relays. In the PB Black team were Aisha Guizani, Kianna Hughes, Isla Lawson and Carys Higgins – they finished 8th out of 13 teams. In the PB Red team were Lois Markham, Ella Gabbitas, Megan Russel and Isla Duerdin – they finished 12th out of 13 teams but gained some invaluable racing experience in a long course pool.
Next relay were the 13 – 15 year old boys freestyle – Harvey Higgins, Lewis Carless, Musaab Khan and Jacob Dunn – they finished 9th out of 12 teams.
Harvey Higgins then made the 50 Freestyle in the 14/under age group – winning Gold in this event.
Carys Higgins – not to be outdone by big brother Harvey, made the 50 Breaststroke final in the 12/under age group – coming 7th place in the final, and also achieving a Midland Qualifying time 🙂
Then the 13- 15 year old boys were back for the medley relay – this time coming 8th out of 12 teams.
Next to make a final was Becky Gulliver this time in the 100 Backstroke. Becky won Silver in this event, and also came third with a Bronze medal as the third fastest 15/under at this year’s Warwicks.
Next relay was the girls 10 – 12 years Medley relay team consisting of Ella Gabbitas, Kianna Hughes, Carys Higgins and Aisha Guizani – they placed 10th out of 12 teams.
Jake Dunn was very happy to make the 50 Backstroke final in the 13/under age group, placing 8th in the final.
Becky Gulliver then made the 50 Butterfly final in the 14/unders, placing 5th in the final – again improving both her time and finishing position from the heats. Katie Gulliver also made the 50 Butterfly final in the 16 and overs, placing 6th in the final. Katie also achieved the Midland time in this event, and improved her time in the final from the time in the heat.
Carys Higgins then made the 100 Breaststroke final in the 12/under age group, placing 5th in the final – improving her time in the final.
Big brother Harvey Higgins then made the 100 Freestyle final in the 14/under age group – winning Gold in this event. Lewis Carless was also in the same 100 Freestyle final – gaining a place on his entry position finishing 7th.
Becky Gulliver also made the 50 Freestyle final in the 14/under age group – winning Gold in the final.
Joel Harris made the final of the 50 Breaststroke in the 11/under age group – placing 6th in the final (gaining two places 🙂 ) and breaking 46 seconds long course for the first time 🙂
Big thanks for Catrise and Trearna Hart for coming along for the Medley relay team in the 13 – 15 age group – along with Tegan Nolan and Becky Gulliver – they placed 8th out of 12 teams.
And finally Becky Gulliver made the final of the 100 Butterfly at the end of a long weekend’s swimming, placing 4th in the final, with a faster time than she had swum in the heats.
Other swimmers who took part over the course of the championships were Metin Ulukus and Daniel Johnson.
A presentation was made to all of the swimmers in the County who had represented Warwickshire in 2018 – Harvey Higgins and Becky Gulliver were presented with a certificate each.
Massive well done to all who took part – lots of personal best times achieved, making one very happy head coach Helen Pordage. Big thanks to Helen for giving up her weekends for this meet.
