Medals galore at Boldmere’s Open Meet this Weekend

Boldmere Nov 14There were medals galore for the Perry Beeches swimmers who took part in this weekend’s Boldmere Open Meet at Stechford baths (November 22nd and 23rd). Special mention goes to Lewis Carless who was the best performing 9 year old boy at the meet this weekend (and 16th best boy overall) – well done to Lewis.

SATURDAY: Lewis Carless began the weekend in style for Perry Beeches with a gold in the boy’s 200 Individual Medley. Dan Smith got the bronze in the 200 IM, meaning he made the exciting SKINS final on the day. This is where the top 6 from the IM race ‘ to the death’ – a sort of musical chairs for swimmers. Last one to touch goes home. Dan came a creditable fourth in this fun event.

Lewis Harvey

This was followed on by the boy’s 50 Butterfly, where in the 9 year category, Harvey Higgins got Gold, and Lewis Carless got the silver medal this time. Dan Smith won silver in this event in the 15/over category (or OAP category as the announcer called it!). Then onto the 50 breast where Dan Smith won the 15/over category by a massive 3 second lead , and Dom Blackwell broke the 35 second barrier for the first time to win the bronze. The boys 200 backstroke saw Ellison Hart get a silver in the boys 9 year category. Then onto the boys 100 Butterfly where Daniel Smith got a silver this time, narrowly missing out on first place. Next came the girls 50 backstroke, where Catrise Hart secured a bronze medal where she came third out of 19 nine year old girls! Follwed by the boys 50 freestyle where Harvey Higgins took the silver and Lewis the bronze in a closely fought battle of the nine year old boys. Dan Smith took the bronze medal in the 15/over category for this event. In the girls 100 Freestyle, Jessica Deans finished in the top 6 so made the ‘sparkly curtain and flashy lights of the final in the evening – Jess achieved personal best times in both of her 100 Freestyle races.

SUNDAY: Daniel Smith was again on form in the boys 100 Breaststroke winning the 15/over category. Jessica Deans swam a great PB to win a bronze medal in the girls 50 Butterfly – Katie Gulliver also won the silver medal in the 15/over category in the same event; Jamie Keyte won the gold in the boys 100 Backstroke 15/over category. In the boys 200 Freestyle, Lewis Carless did a massive 15 second PB to win gold, with Ellison Hart just behind him in the bronze position.
