Do you fancy a change from your everyday swimming routine? Why not challenge yourself and swim a mile in open water for Mencap, on 20 July 2014.
Swim Mencap will see 200 participants swim in the open waters of the prestigious Olympic venue of Dorney Lake, Windsor, all doing something amazing by raising money to support people with learning disabilities.
It would be great if your swimming club would like to take part in this exciting event. You have the choice of swimming half a mile or a mile, and the swim is open to people of all ages (under 16s will need parental consent).
It’s only £25 to register and £15 for under 16s. Participants can also swim with friends or family and register a group of 3 for £60. There is a suggested sponsorship of £50 per participant, but the more you can raise the more will go towards our work supporting people with learning disabilities. Visitwww.mencap.org.uk/swim to register today!!
Mencap’s new ambassador Paralympic gold medalist Jessica Jane Applegate is supporting Swim Mencap for the second year and will be providing training tips for participants throughout the next few months.
Why swim for Mencap
Mencap is the voice of learning disability. Everything we do is about valuing people with a learning disability, and their families and carers.
Mencap works to:
- Empower people with a learning disability to live the life they choose
- Change laws and services
- Challenge wrong ways of thinking about learning disability
