Almost here – Pip’s 2 way Channel swim challenge
Pip`s Swim Team Challenge for 2013 is to attempt a TWO WAY SWIM ACROSS THE ENGLISH CHANNEL.!! we do aim swim from England to France and back again, between us thats about 60 miles of swimming.
This year we are fund raising in the memory of Philippa “Pip “Thomas and in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer. We Tragically lost Pip, to breast cancer in October of last year – her two year fight against this horrible disease was such a brave one ,she is missed so much by everyone x
Pip was the long time Partner of Richard Brownjohn who’s idea it was to try and do a 2 way swim of the English Channel in memory of his Beautiful Pip and whilst doing so try to raise money for the amazing Charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer who are dedicated to saving lives by finding the causes of breast cancer, improving detection, diagnosis, and treatment….
Pip`s Channel Team consists Richard Brownjohn, Stuart Dugmore, Darran Dyke, Gary Edgington, Rob Cash, and Paul Bates . We will attempt our swim around the15th July 2013.We will swim from Dover at around 2am over to the French coast at Cap Gris Nez where we have to swim ashore and walk briefly on French soil, before then returning back to the sea to attempt our return swim back to Dover . We estimate it will take us just under 24 hours to complete the 60 miles swimming!

Beeches success at the Boldmere Water Carnival
What a great weekend for Perry Beeches Sutton Swim Squad at the Boldmere Water Carnival. It was a real scorcher both in and out of the water, with 42 Personal Best times out of 50 swims. This equates to a massive 84% of all swims – what a great result.
The 9 swimmers who took part were Dominic Blackwell, Jessica Deans, Dominique Gomez, Andrew Gulliver, Katie Gulliver, Jessica Jones, Jamie Keyte, Pia Tonks and Sancha Tonks.
Helen Pordage, who was there as Coach over the weekend said “If you had to ask me to name the ‘swimmers of the meet’ , I would have to say ………………. ALL of them. Every swimmer swam beyond themselves and contributed to a fantastic weekend for Beeches. Yes we had our ups and downs – but that’s Open Meets for you. Its tough and they all come through it. For me it shear magic – they kept achieving PB after PB.”

Paul Bates with the legend Dan Earthquake
Whilst enjoying the early morning sun yesterday morning, Paul Bates managed to get a few moments with the fresh-from-the-channel legend that is Dan Earthquake.
Dan said he was still hurting all over from his successful solo swim last week!
His story is well worth a listen…the 2 hrs of swimming through jelly fish sounded painful , but as Dan put it “My shoulders were hurting too much to feel the stings at the time!”
Dan’s channel marathon blog (link below) , which is a very good and honest account as always from the big man, is well worth a read.
Also………………only 6 days to go until Mr Bates himself attempts the two way Channel swim as part of Big Rick’s team….
