Beeches at the National Arena League Round 1 2016

The short journey up the M6 to Cheslyn Hay proved to be an interesting and somewhat mixed night for the band of swimmers from Perry Beeches SSS swimming club. PBSSS came third on the night with 217 points, 4 points behind Bromsgrove on 221 points, and the winners were Cheadle on 238 points.

arena-oct-2016First places on the night went to Jamie Keyte (Boys Open 200m IM, Open 100m Backstroke and Open 100m Freestyle); Girls 11/under freestyle relay team and the 11/under medley relay team(Becky Gulliver, Catrise Hart, Trearna Hart and Kadijha Cox); Boys 11/under freestyle relay team (Harvey Higgins, Lewis Carless, Ellison Hart and Vinaye Gaddu); Ladies Open Medley relay team (Jess Jones, Sareena Gaddu, Katie Gulliver and Danya Gaddu); Catrise Hart (Girls 11/under 50m Backstroke); Ellison Hart (Boys 11/under 50m Backstroke); Katie Gulliver (Ladies Open 100m Butterfly and  Open 100m Freestyle); Becky Gulliver (Girls 11/under 50m Butterfly and 11/under 50m Freestyle); Jess Jones (Ladies Open 100m Backstroke); and last but by no means least the ‘ladies’ Open 6 * 2 lengths freestyle relay team (Sareena Gaddu, Danya Gaddu, Jessica Jones, Sophia Deans, Becky Gulliver and Katie Gulliver – this team included an 11 year old and a 12 year old!).

With 35 top 3 finishes out of the 50 races the team should be very proud of their performances.

The team  must now wait with baited breath to see their table position and where they will be travelling to for the second round.

To be continued……..

Leicester Penguins Open Meet 2016

jamiekeyteleics2016Winning ten medals across the two days, and getting a swimmer into both the male and female skins, the small band of Beeches swimmers who made the short journey along the motorway had a thoroughly good time at this weekend’s Leicester Penguins Open Meet.

Firstly Jamie Keyte, who despite being poorly for most of the previous week got Bronze medals in the 50 Breaststroke (PB), 50 Freestyle and the 100 I.M. Jamie also qualified for the Boys skins, and made it through every round to finish top and win the skins overall. Well done Jamie 🙂

katiebeckyleics2016Katie Gulliver, who unfortunately had managed to get poorly in time to swim at the weekend, still managed to attain Bronze in the 50 Butterfly and the 100 Butterfly and Silver in the 100 Freestyle. Katie also qualified for the skins, coming 4th overall – well done Katie – and hope you feel better soon 🙂

Becky Gulliver won Bronze in the 50 Backstroke and 200 Freestyle, and Silver in the 100 Butterfly in the 11/under category. Well done Becky 🙂

Drew Rimmer won silver in the 200 Butterfly in the 16 and over category, and also managed to PB in screenhunter_313-oct-03-14-10every race (8 events) over the weekend meet. Well done Drew 🙂

Ella Payne and Daniel Job were the other two Beeches swimmers on Saturday – all of whom got to meet Liam Tancock who was visiting the meet that day. A big Beeches well done to every single swimmer who took part and represented the club.

Beeches at the Midland Masters Champs 2016

Three Beeches swimmers entered this year’s Midland Masters Swimming Champs, held at Leamington Spa at the weekend.

Cathy Reekie, for whom the Masters was her first major open meet, swam well in her two chosen events. Cathy won Bronze in the 100 Breaststroke, and came 4th in the 50 Breaststroke.

dianneDianne Doolan won Gold medals in both the 200 Breaststroke and 100 Butterfly – and excellent personal best times in both events! So we now have a Midland Champion in our midst 🙂

Pete Purdy competed in the 100 Breaststroke, placing 5th, the 50 Butterfly, placing 6th, and the 200 Freestyle, placing 4th.

A big Beeches well done to all who competed at the Midland Masters over the weekend.
