Paul Bates – Runner up Amateur Sportsman of the Year

 

paul batesPaul Bates, swimmer extrordinaire, was recently honoured by reaching the final 3 of the Birmingham Sports and Mail Amateur Sportsman of the Year award. Paul on the night ended up being runner up to a young gymnast called Joe Fraser, who is the current Youth Olympic , European and British Champion no less.

Paul said he was very happy to have been shortlisted – we think Paul is amazing and are very proud of him.

Meet and Greet September 15

Many thanks to all of the swimmers, parents, teachers, coaches and committee, who came along to our very first meet and greet.

Mel Hart, the club’s chairman, introduced the evening; followed by Dave Marsh Director of swimming.

The children present on the night were awarded their certificates by Dave Marsh. A very pleasant evening was had by all.

Leave M6 at junc 6. Take A38 Lichfield (Tyburn Road) for approx. 2 miles. Turn Left at traffic lights into Kingsbury Road (Land Mark – Lidl) Turn Right at next island into Holly Lane. 2nd on the Right is Woodacre Road. Hollyfields is on the immediate Left hand side of the road.

From M42 Southbound
Leave M42 at junc 9. Take A4097 to Sutton Coldfield (local sign Minworth) for approx 3 miles. At large island turn first left onto A38 Kingsbury Road (signed Birmingham / M6) At next island continue straight on. After passing the Showcase Cinema, keep to Right hand lane. At traffic lights carry straight on. Do not follow City Centre signs. Turn Right at the next island into Holly Lane. 2nd on the Right is Woodacre Road. Hollyfields is on the immediate Left hand side of the road.

From M6 Northbound
Leave M6 at junc 5. Take 3rd exit signed Sutton Coldfield (A452). At next island go straight on (past Jaguar Factory). Next island, turn left onto A38 signed City Centre. After passing the Showcase Cinema, keep to Right hand lane. At traffic lights carry straight on. Do not follow City Centre signs. Turn Right at next island into Holly Lane. 2nd on the Right is Woodacre Road. Hollyfields is on the immediate Left hand side of the road.

From Birmingham City Centre
Take the A38 Aston Expressway towards the M6, exiting via the towards A38 Lichfield (Tyburn Road)- follow this for approx. 2 miles. Coventry Sprinting!

CovSprints2015Saturday was the day for sprinting – well the annual Coventry Sprints for the many Beeches swimmers who attended this meet.

The Coventry Sprints – where you try your hardest to swim one length (50 meters) in each stroke – and if you do really well you get rewarded by swimming a 200 I.M. in a final swim off!

It was a very warm Saturday at Coventry, but the swimmers were in good spirits and form.

Individual medal winners on the day were:

Gold medal winners – Becky Gulliver (10’s 50 Free); Catrise Hart (10’s 50 Back); Ellison Hart (10’s 50 Back).

Silver medal winners – Danya Gaddu (14’s 50 Butterfly and 50 Back); Katie Gulliver (15/over 50 Free); Jamie Keyte (15/over 50 Free and 50 Butterfly); Harvey Higgins (10’s 50 Butterfly and 50 Free); Penny Whittingham (15/over 50 Back); Jamie Keyte (15/over 50 Back and 50 Butterfly).

Bronze medal winners – Sophia Deans (11’s 50 Breast and 50 Free); Catrise Hart (10’s 50 Breast and 50 Free); Lewis Carless (10’s 50 Breast); Becky Gulliver (10’s 50 Butterfly); Ellison Hart (10’s 50 Butterfly); Trearna Hart (10’s 50 Back).

Other swimmers on the day were Ella Payne, Vinaye Gaddu, Victoria Cox, Andrew Gulliver, Luke Flaherty, Abbie Fuller, Emma Fuller and Daniel Cox.

Triplets at CovReaching the final is an amazing achievment and the finalists on the day were:

Girls 10’s – Catrise Hart (2nd), Trearna Hart (3rd), Becky Gulliver (4th).

Boys 10’s – Lewis Carless (3rd), Ellison Hart (4th), Harvey Higgins (5th and Vinaye Gaddu (7th).

Girls 11/under – Ella Payne (5th) and Sophia Deans (8th).

Girls 14’s – Danya Gaddu (3rd)

Girls 15/over – Penny Whittingham (2nd) and Katie Gulliver (6th).

24 personal best times were achieved on the day. Well done to all the swimmers – results can be seen here :
