Beeches at Boldmere The Open 2016

It was a very successful weekend for the Beeches swimmers who took part in this year’s Boldmere the Open at Stechford swimming baths.

Starting the weekend off with a bang was Becky Gulliver, who won Gold in the 400 Freestyle on Friday evening. Becky also won bronze in the 100 Freestyle, 50 Backstroke, 200 Backstroke and Silver in the 100 Butterfly and 200 Butterfly.

Next in with the medals was Lewis Carless, swimming for the City of Birmingham, who won Bronze in the 200 IM. Followed closely by Carys Higgins, who won Bronze in the 100 Breaststroke, 200 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, and a Silver in the 100 Butterfly.

boldmereopennov16Harvey Higgins, also swimming for the COB, won Gold in the 50 Butterfly, Silver in the 50 Freestyle, and Bronze in the 50 Backstroke. Drew Rimmer won Gold in the 200 Butterfly. Jamie Keyte won Bronze in the hard fought Open 50 Freestyle race, and also in the 50 Backstroke; and Sophia Deans won Bronze in the 50 Freestyle. Shout out to Katie Gulliver, who attempted to swim with an injured arm over the weekend – hope you get well soon Kate!

Adding to that there were the finals for the 100 Freestyle – for the girls Carys Higgins and Becky Gulliver made the finals, and for the boys it was Mason Carless (who had the biggest smile in the world when his name was announced!), Harvey Higgins and Jamie Keyte. All of the finalists swam faster in the finals than they had in their heats.

Jamie Keyte also made the skins – getting through to the fourth round before being knocked out.

Well done to all who took part – other swimmers were Kadijha Cox, Ella Payne, David Coleman, and Cameron Rimmer – coach Helen Pordage is very proud of all the swimmers – and very pleased with the 50 personal best times achieved too!
