katiejamiebeckyWell done to Jamie Keyte, and Katie and Becky Gulliver for their performances at last weekend’s Corby Open Meet.

Jamie and Katie got 5 gold medals eachmedalscorby, and both made the finals of both the 50 and 100 freestyle.

Becky made the final of the 11/12 100 freestyle, finishing 5th overall. Becky also got 4th place in the 50 Backstroke.

British Swimming – New Resource for Teachers and Coaches

British Swimming has launched a new innovative online resource, Off the Blocks, designed to provide information and support to teachers and coaches working across the country.

Off the Blocks is a free programme designed by experts for the benefit of those that work at every level of the sport in Great Britain.

The resources have been produced to help upskill the teachers and coaches of the next generation of swimmers by providing a range of simple and relevant materials.

The first layer of content concentrates on ‘Technical’ issues, and focuses on starting, turning, underwater kicking and finishing skills. Further content will be added in other areas including ‘Physical’ and ‘Tactical’.

The first set of physical resources, produced in collaboration with Home Nation performance staff, UK Sport and the BSCA, can now be accessed online.

The resource takes the form of a responsive micro-website which resizes for desktop, tablet and mobile view, providing video examples of elite male & female athletes, plus age group male and female exemplars.

Downloadable factsheets for coaches to use on poolside are available to support this resource.  These contain:

  • Fundamental technique informatio
  • Coaching pointers
  • Drills, skills and progressions
  • Still images
  • Benchmark data

Registration is required in order to access the site from the UK only, details of which can be found at: http://offtheblocks.info/

If you would like more information please contact the ‘Off the Blocks team here.

Sutton Coldfield Owl Roll Call of Backers

See below the names of all those who supported the Sutton Observer Crowdfunder appeal to buy back Sutton Coldfield Owl.

The pledges have helped us bring Sutton Coldfield Owl home to the Royal town! The owl has now taken up its permanent perch outside Cafe Nero in The Gracechurch Centre where it will stay forevermore.

Every penny pledged through the Crowdfunder appeal went directly to Birmingham Children’s Hospital £3.6m Star Appeal to help create a Children’s Rare Diseases Centre that will provide coordinated care, treatment and support for children living with a rare diagnosed condition.

Thanks to everyone for their enthusiastic response – your pledges will help make a massive difference to those who need it most.

As you know Sutton Coldfield Owl will be making its current perch near Caffe Nero its permanent home and shortly it will be mounted onto a new engraved plinth. Watch this space for details and photos, coming soon.
