British Swimming – New Resource for Teachers and Coaches

British Swimming has launched a new innovative online resource, Off the Blocks, designed to provide information and support to teachers and coaches working across the country.

Off the Blocks is a free programme designed by experts for the benefit of those that work at every level of the sport in Great Britain.

The resources have been produced to help upskill the teachers and coaches of the next generation of swimmers by providing a range of simple and relevant materials.

The first layer of content concentrates on ‘Technical’ issues, and focuses on starting, turning, underwater kicking and finishing skills. Further content will be added in other areas including ‘Physical’ and ‘Tactical’.

The first set of physical resources, produced in collaboration with Home Nation performance staff, UK Sport and the BSCA, can now be accessed online.

The resource takes the form of a responsive micro-website which resizes for desktop, tablet and mobile view, providing video examples of elite male & female athletes, plus age group male and female exemplars.

Downloadable factsheets for coaches to use on poolside are available to support this resource.  These contain:

  • Fundamental technique informatio
  • Coaching pointers
  • Drills, skills and progressions
  • Still images
  • Benchmark data

Registration is required in order to access the site from the UK only, details of which can be found at: http://offtheblocks.info/

If you would like more information please contact the ‘Off the Blocks team here.

ASA Swimming Teacher CPD Day 25/10 in Kingswinford

Attention all Teachers and Coaches! The ASA are pleased to let you know that they’re holding a Swimming Teacher CPD day on Sunday 25th October 2015 at Summerhill School, Kingswinford.

The cost is £50 and includes 2 workshops plus lunch.

For full details please see the attached poster.

Booking and payment can be made via the following link: https://asa.formstack.com/forms/west_midlands_teacher_cpd_day

Any questions – please ask Jenny Powell, Dave Marsh or Mandy Blizard.

Width Lessons

Please do not ask your teacher if your child can attend a ‘double lesson’ in widths.

The lesson is planned with warm up, main and a fun element at the end.

It is not effective for the swimmers to have one full lesson, and then start the same lesson again.

If you are paying for two or more lessons, there are four days that your child may attend lessons in.

Thank you for your help with this.

Level 2 Teachers Course in March now discounted

I’m pleased to let you know that the Level 2 Teaching Aquatics course that is running at Beeches from 30th March is now available at the discounted price of £499!! This is a saving of £181.

Any members of the club that want to do this course will still be eligible for Grant Aid of 50% which takes the price down to £249.50 – brilliant value for a Level 2 course!

This discount is a one off offer and is unlikely to be available on the other L2 course that is running in Birmingham in August.

Please can you pass this on to the relevant teachers? If anyone is interested, please ask them to e-mail me with their full name, DOB and e-mail address (I need all three).

Thanks

Jen
