Congratulations to Mandy Blizard – nominated as BBC Unsung Hero

Congratulations to Mandy Blizard of Perry Beeches SSS Swimming Club who has been shortlisted for the BBC Unsung Hero Award.

ScreenHunter_26 Nov. 25 09.20Earlier in the year Mandy was presented with the West Midlands Regional ASA Volunteer of the Year Award and went on to win a silver award in the National Volunteer of the Year Award category. The ASA recognises a volunteer whose contribution is seen as invaluable and their efforts are instrumental in the work behind the scenes.

Mandy first started volunteering at Perry Beeches in 2007 and has taken on numerous roles since then. She is currently the Club Secretary and Club Communications Officer. In 2010/2011 Mandy achieved her Level 1 and 2 Coaching qualifications. In addition to being Club Secretary, she also teaches the Advanced Lengths swimmers and is the Chief Instructor, responsible for the Learn to Swim section of the club.

Mandy works tirelessly at Perry Beeches and is the “go to” person if anyone has any questions. She oversees the club’s website, Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as organising galas, club discos and maintaining stock of the sweet shop. The list is endless. Mandy is always happy to help, with a friendly and approachable manner.

As well as volunteering at Perry Beeches, Mandy also gives her time willingly to a number of other organisations involved in competitive swimming in the West Midlands. These include the Mercian League, the Nuneaton Junior Swimming League and Birmingham Swimming Action Group.

Everyone at Perry Beeches is very proud of Mandy. She is an integral part of the Club and always goes above and beyond for us. We are really pleased that Mandy’s efforts are being recognised.
