Saturday night saw round three of this year’s Mercian League, which was held at sunny Leamington Spa. An eager, but very small team were there along with coaches Tom Reader and Helen Pordage.
Two good placings in rounds one and two saw Beeches in the third tier final – one gala higher than the previous year.
A brilliant set of swims against some tough opposition, saw Beeches come a creditable 5th place on the night. Special mention goes to the 10/unders – Lewis Carless, Harvey Higgins, Ellison Hart, Vinaye Gaddu, Catrise Hart, Trearna Hart, Sophia Deans and Becky Gulliver, who all swam their own individuals and relays, as well as swimming in the 12/under and 14/under races!
Winners on the night were Jamie Keyte, who got 1st in both the 100 I.M. and 100 Free and 2nd in the 100 Back; Penny Whittingham who came 1st in the 100 Back, 2nd in the 100 I.M. and 3rd in the 100 Butterfly; Sophia Deans who came 2nd in the 10/under 50m freestyle; Catrise Hart, who came 2nd in the 50 Back; Ellison Hart, who came 3rd in the 50m Back; Vicky Cox, who came 3rd in the 100m Breast and 100m Backstroke for the 12/unders; Sareena Gaddu, whgot 2nd in the Open 100m Breasttroke; Dom Blackwell, who came 2nd in the 100m Breaststroke; Harvey Higgins who came 3rd in the 10/under 25m Butterfly.
Relay team success on the night were: The girls 10/under team of Catrise Hart, Trearna Hart, Sophia Deans and Becky Gulliver who won both the Free and Medley relay races; The Boys 10/under Freestyle Relay team of Lewis Carless, Ellison Hart, Harvey Higgins and Vinaye Gaddu, who came second; The Open girls – consisting of Penny Whittingham, Sareena Gaddu, Danya Gaddu and Vicky Cox, who came 3rd in both the Free and Medley relays; The girls 12/under Freestyle relay, consisting of Sophia deans, Becky Gulliver, Vicky Cox and Catrise Hart, who came 3rd on the night – not bad for 3 10 year olds and a twelve!
7 personal best times were achieved on the night – the swimmers now have a well deserved break now for the swimmers over the summer, before next seasons National Arena League Round 1 on the 10th October.
