Well done to all the swimmers who swam in the Stechford gala
This Saturday Perry Beaches Swimming club swam in the Final round of the Diddy League spirits high, atmosphere buzzing our junior team Captains Danya Gaddu and Ben Coeulle helped to lead us to our best result for the junior team this season. Placing a respectable 5th the team in total had 27 personal best times and over 30 unofficial Personal Bests, including 11 year old Cody Robins who knocked over a second of her 50 backstroke event, Sofia Deans a 9 year old removed a second from her 25m front crawl, While 12 year old Ben Coeulle also got a personal best time on his 25m Breast stroke.
The gala showed a mixed bag of results with swims ranging from 6th to first. A massive well done to Eloise Duce, who stormed to victory in her 50m Breaststroke individual.. 11 year old Jessica Deans also won her 50m Freestyle event in a fabulous personal best of 33.60. While our girls 8 by 1 relay although disqualified deserve a mention for their team spirit and determination. Despite not winning their races all our swimmers did incredibly well especially our 9 and under age group who some of which were only doing their 3rd or 4th galas.
Finally a massive thank you to all our volunteers: of whom without the club would not have been able to participate. Head coach Dave Marsh, Chaperones Maria Duce and Karen Westwood who helped to keep our swimmers on time to races and well behaved. Time keeper, Michelle Robins a new volunteer who had only been a time keeper once before, Abigail Duce who is one of our youngest time keepers at 15, and Brian Shermer who helped along with other officials to keep the gala running smoothly. Finally thank you to our parent supporters who were the loudest without a doubt.
A massive well done and thank to all who came and took part. Perry Beeches is proud of you.

Volunteers required for research – emergency response in Birmingham
I am writing to you with a slightly unconventional request for assistance.
My name is Kristian Krieger and I am a researcher at King’s College London.
I am currently involved in an academic study on emergency response in the
Birmingham area. For this study, I am currently recruiting volunteers and I
was wondering whether you think some of your members might be interested. If
so, would you please be so kind to circulate our call for participants among
your members. You can find it here:
http://www.birminghamprepared.gov.uk/news/practice-research/.Many thanks for considering my request for your kind assistance.
Best wishes
Kristian–

Big Ricks Swim Team – Channel Swim – 3 weeks to go
In 2012 Big Ricks Swim Team got within half a mile of completing a double swim of the English channel, but due to extreme weather fog,rain,8 ft waves ,force 5 winds, strong sea swells (just a normal day in the channel really) , the swim was eventually stopped , our pilot Mr Freddy Mardle had let us swim on for 4 hrs through the bad weather hoping against hope it would clear enough for us to be able to finish but sadly the weather to get even worse as we approached Dover as darkness fell , so after swimming for more than 22 hours Fred had to stop the swim due to his growing concerns for not only for the safety of the swimmer in Water , but also for the safety of the 9 soles on board the Masterpiece boat , it was the correct decision off course , we loved Fred words after we finally arrived back in folkestone harbour at 2 am some 26 hours after we left.. ..Well Lads you did okay , you almost made it, i know you are down and disappointed now , but Ha that’s channel swimming for you…Everyday is different , Everyday brings a new challenge , if it was easy everyone would be doing it..!!, just be glad your safe and well and able to try again.!! .. every channel swimmer knows Captain Webb`s famous remarks about swimming the Channel….”” Nothing Great Is Easy,”” he can say that again..
…wish us luck…Ricks & PIps
